beinbruchil mhd. st. m., nur Gl. 3, 673, 63;
714, 39 (13. Jh.) painpruichil, bainbruhil: Bein-
brecher (Name eines Vogels: Seeadler[?] oder
Rötelweihe[?]), ixon, cruricula
(vgl. Ahd. Wb. I,
849
; Diefenbach, Gl. lat.-germ. 313 [ixan]. 160.
164 [cruricula, curruca]). Das Wort ist ohne
Zweifel eine Übersetzung des lat. Vogelnamens
ossifragus, -ga: vulgo appellatur avis, quae ossa
ab alto dimittit et frangit ...
(Thes. ling. lat. IX,
2, 1118), der frühnhd. auch durch beinbrüchel,
beinbrech(er) glossiert wird; die biologische
Identifizierung dieses Vogels bleibt immer
noch etwas unsicher (vgl. Diefenbach, a.a.O.
402; Schweiz. Id. V, 378; Suolahti, Dt. Vogelna-
men 350 f.; Dt. Wb. I, 1385). S. bein, brechan,
-il. Starck-Wells 44.
