Wort ist identisch mit mlat. can(n)aba f.
‚Hanf, Hanfseil, -schnur, -strick‘, eine
Nebenform zu lat. cannabis ‚Hanf‘ (Mlat.
Wb. 2, 170 f.). Daher ist es fraglich, ob es
sich um ein echt-althochdeutsches Wort
handelt (Splett, Ahd. Wb., Köbler, Wb.
d. ahd. Spr., Schützeichel⁷, Starck-Wells,
Schützeichel, Glossenwortschatz haben das
Wort nicht aufgenommen).
