Gröger, Ahd. u. as. Komp.fuge § 126 c, ist das
Wort als fartbetti mit auch sonst bezeugtem
Schwund des ausl. dentalen Verschlußlauts des
ersten Gliedes vor b (p) und unter Anlehnung
an faran zu deuten, denn baionula wird in den
meisten ahd. Glossen durch fartbetti (s. d.)
glossiert. Jedoch zeigt das ae. Wort, daß es
sich (wie bei dem lat. Lemma) ebensogut um
ein bewegliches, tragbares Bett wie um ein
Bett für die Fahrt handeln kann. Das erste
Glied von mhd. uarbette kann also entweder
ein Adj. var fahrend, beweglich zum Verb fa-
ran (vgl. ahd. einfar [s. d.] allein fahrend,
mhd. auf einerlei Art sich bewegend [Lexer I,
531] und nhd. Fahrstuhl ursprl. ein bewegli-
cher Sitz in Bergwerken u. ä.

oder ein Subst. var f. Weg, Bahn, Zug, Fahrt
(Lexer III, 19) sein. Jedenfalls ist es wohl von
fartbetti zu trennen.
