*funo m. n-St. oder *funa f. n-St., nur Ot-
frid 3, 24, 102 dat.pl. funon: Binde, Tuch, in-
stita
, weder mhd. noch nhd. belegt.

Ahd. Wb. III, 1331; Splett, Ahd. Wb. I, 1216; Köbler,
Wb. d. ahd. Spr. 338; Schützeichel⁵ 143; Graff III,
525; Schade 232.

Nur im As. begegnet eine mögliche Entspre-
chung: as. funna f. n-St.(?), Gl. 2, 497, 64 =
Wadstein, Kl. as. Spr.denkm. 85, 32 (10./
11. Jh.): Strick, Garn(?), tort, set.

Ahd. Wb. a. a. O.; Starck-Wells 183; Holthausen, As.
Wb. 23; Gallée, Vorstud. z. e. andd. Wb. 85; Wad-
stein, a. a. O. 242.

funna ist zweifellos ein as. Wort und nicht, wie Stein-
meyer-Sievers, Ahd. Gl. 2, 497 Anm. 37 annehmen,
eine lat. Glosse (= lat. funda).

Die ahd. und as. Wörter sind wohl aus lat. fūnis
gedrehter Strick, Seil, Tau entlehnt, einem
Wort, das keine sichere Etymologie hat; vgl.
Walde-Hofmann, Lat. et. Wb. I, 597 f.

Anders Fr. Specht, Voretzsch-Festschrift 40: ahd. funo
steht im Ablaut zu ahd. fano Tuch (s. d.).
