nom. sg. furifundliher: wütend oder begei-
stert
, furibundus. Das Wort ist eine volks-
etym. entstellte Lehnbildung aus lat. furibun-
dus, indem lat. furi- mit dem ahd. Präfix furi-
( furi) und -bundus mit einem zu ahd. funten
emporsteigen, sich erheben, intfuntnussida,
bifuntnussidi Empfindung, Gefühl usw. (s. d.)
gehörenden Adj. *funtlîh gleichgesetzt wurde.
Bei volksetym. Entstellung von Fremdwörtern
ist der Gleichklang wichtiger als die Bed., die
oft kaum mit Genauigkeit aus den Bed. der Be-
standteile zu ermitteln ist. Viell. wurde diese
